Jessica Lauren Four - White Mountain

Never heard of Jessica Lauren? It’s more probable that you’ve heard this London music staple on gems by Jean Carne, Tom Browne, Dexter Wansel and James Mason instead while not even being aware. She’s gearing up to release her own album, Jessica Lauren Four and has droppd a 12″ to prepare us. I’m really in love with White Mountain, “a spell-binding and hypnotic blend of 21st century jazz sensibilities combined with ambient dance music minimalism and is a lesson in taste, class and style.”

Kodiak - Spreo Superbus

We bring in 2012 with the debut release from London-based duo Kodiak.
Details about Kodiak’s members are thin on the ground, however, rumour has it that they can be found working behind the counter of one of London’s most famous record shops. Their inaugural release ‘Spreo Superbus’ is a brazen assault on the senses with one of the wildest crescendos you’re likely to hear. An intense six-minute journey that guides us through the many styles of UK dance music whilst creating a unique energy and vibe.
Each track has been re-imagined by Remote Location and Mike Tucker as a kaleidoscopic responsive landscape, constantly shifting and changing with the music. Check them out below.
Having played at the first ever Numbers and with a new album 'RIP' imminent on Honest Jons, Actress has kept the fans and critics guessing all the way through 2011 and his Uraeus remix of 'Spreo Superbus' keeps his sound firmly rooted in the unknown. The remix begins with a dreamier take on the original: floating chords, sub stabs and vocal samples come drifting over a head nodding 80's hip-hop inspired beat in which all is calm until the final third of the track when a head-rattling bassline takes over and obliterates the dynamics entirely.

Diplo - Climax (Asa Remix)

And for those that missed the original…

Last week Diplo’s colabaration with Usher dropped on the scene… we’ve been waiting for the remixes to drop and here is the first one we’ve found worth sharing… Diplo did a stella job on the original, the rises and falls of the synth are like pure electro soul whilst the power of Ushers vocals are outright incredible…
Asa give us a nice dubsteppy spin on the ting… not crazy heaving basslines like so much of the shit you hear knocking about nowadays, just good ol’ simple smooth beats and bass… enjoy…

Jus’ Bros - The Truth (Xinobi Remix)

We are delighted to premiere Xinobi’s brand new remix of “The Truth” by Jus’ Bros. And it’s really fresh, it’s funky and groovy as hell. “The Truth” is a solid tune from Jus’ Bros, the brain child from Brazilian DJ Paulo Jardim, written with the help of long time friend and established producer and DJ Martin Dawson. It features sample vocals of Brazilian soul legend Tim Maia. We first heard this track on The Magician’s magic tape 10 last year, and now finally will be released on the excellent label Smile Recordings. The EP also includes two remixes from Mercury and Viadrina. Give it a spin below:

Chromatics - Lady (Video)

Bits and pieces have been trickling in from the forthcoming sophomore LP by Portland Italo-ists Chromatics, the latest of which is this great video for smoky slow-jam "Lady." All the necessary components are perfectly in place: warm analog production from Johnny Jewel, hushed vocal melodies from Ruth Radelet, and classically stylized cinematography from Rhys Balmer and director Alberto Rossini. It's just enough to whet our appetite until Italians Do It Better finally releases Chromatics' belated Kill For Love album.

Running - Jessie Ware (Disclosure Remix)

As usual Disclosure propose a great mix of Running produced by Julio Bashmore. Enjoy
Will be out on PMR Record soon.

The record will be called “Phillips”, and you can hear the album’s opening track “70000ac” below, accompanied by a NSFW video from Holger Wüst, the man responsible for the visual art at the Robert Johnson nightclub. Looking forward.

Welcome to ColeCo vision! We first heard of Toronto-based production duo back in October, when their track “Can’t Stop” was included on The Magician’s mixtape. After releasing lots of delicious remixes, ColeCo dropped today their debut EP “Can’t Stop”, which is available for free download via their website. It contains three tracks and a remix of Florence & The Machine’s live cover of “Take Care”. The title track is our favorite cut from the release. Still sounds so fresh. As they use to say: Get down or lay down.

The Mekanism – Can’t Believe

Needwant get set to welcome you to the world of Parisian super duo, The Mekanism, with a debut EP that will make you fall in love with their spin on disco infused house music. Effortlessly smooth and divinely deep, they capture an advanced and modern sound that will blow you away. The EP features three original tracks plus a remix from Needwant favourite, Mario Basanov who continues to gain notoriety as both an individual artists and within his Mario & Vidis project. Title track ‘Can’t Believe’ oozes with a funky yet deep groove and rhythm. The empowering melody and warm keys captivate the mind, as the murky vocal takes us deep. Lithuanian producer Mario Basanov steps in for remix duty, with a housier, deeper dance floor spin on the original ‘Can’t Believe’. Grumbling stabs and rounded melodic keys drive this remix with impressive results. Next up ‘Missing Love’ is highly infectious with its forceful bass, fluid warm keys, steady claps and captivating, deep vocal, which will engulf the dance floor. ‘Your Shade’ is the third of the original tracks on offer from the talented duo. Using their own vocal for a French twist, they prove their artistic worth for this smooth deep cut.

Tracklist:

A1. - Can't Believe
A2. - Can't Believe (Mario Basanov remix)
B1. - Missing Love
B2. - Your Shade

Gang Colours – Fancy Restaurant

We’re immensely proud to present fresh material from Gang Colours, backed with three killer reworks. Machinedrum busts out clattering junglist breakbeats and rainbow synths; the hotly tipped Ifan Dafydd musters a richly textured skittering dub; and Deft slowly builds a hypnotic groove, rising to a glorious crescendo of billowing synths.
Gang Colours joined the Brownswood family last year and announced his arrival with a sparkling 4-track EP entitled ‘In Your Gut Like A Knife’. Then came a cluster of free remixes via the Brownswood Bandcamp, called in from respected friends and family: Pedestrian, Frederic Robinson, DJ Dials and Alex Patchwork. All the while he’s been holed up in Southampton recording his debut album ‘The Keychain Collection’ which drops on 27th February 2012.

Released 20-02-12
A1. Fancy Restaurant
A2. Fancy Restaurant (Machinedrum Remix)

Lucky Paul - Elephant Island EP

Born in New Zealand and living in LA, Lucky Paul – so-called because his name is Paul and he's, er, lucky – is currently Feist's drummer. In his spare time, however, he makes densely hypnotic, drum-heavy dream-pop for label somethinksounds. Elephant Island, the follow-up to last year's well-received The Slow Ground EP, features Electric Wire Hustle frontman Mara TK, whose singing ushers in pogoing beats, reverb-heavy drums and synth washes before it fades to allow the music to take over for the final 30 seconds. For the rest of the EP – premiered here – we get the lovely slow-burn Piano Dub version, a UK funky remix from rising producer Ossie, and an extended house remix from Midland. It's a testament to the original pull that it's not overshadowed by its re-rubs, those big splashy drums and the song's bouncing melodies more than enough to keep your attention.

Blondes - Blondes

Zach Steinman and Sam Haar are the missing link between ’90s Balearic and chillwave, trading in a sunrise-techno so 6am-eternal it’s indecent. Like Scandinavian group Air France, the Brooklynites create dreamy, Mediterranean music despite coming from somewhere that’s neither dreamy nor Mediterranean – and the result is poignant package-holiday dance, sun-drunk but urgent with passion. While some may accuse them of frivolous hipsterism, their ecstatic trance is conducted with technical refinement, the nine-minute ‘Business’ manoeuvring towards its destination with masterful grace. Altogether, it’s an immersive trip through memory bliss.

OUT NOW

Julia Holter - Ekstasis

The dense thickets of sonic fog that clouded Julia Holter's Tragedy have dissapated on "In the Same Room", our second taste from Holter's forthcoming follow-up, Ekstasis. The song is a perfect distillation of her strengths, from the harpsichord that adds a briefly rich layer of sound to the song's gorgeous comedown to the minute of dissipating ambience and scattered keyboard tones that act as a head-cleaner for the slightly distanced pop that precedes it. She's inviting us to lean in closer, and the music yields more with every narrowed inch.

Evian Christ - Kings And Them

Evian Christ, the anonymous producer whose unannounced series of straight-to-YouTube ambient footwork positioned him as the most exciting new artist of the year, has revealed his name—Joshua Leary, as many speculated—and finally shared high-quality MP3s of those songs. Christ resides in the UK, apparently; he’s 22 years old. While there are no new productions in the set, entitled Kings and Them, all tracks have been remastered and shine brighter than ever. If you downloaded one of the gunky YouTube rips floating around, it’s worth the upgrade. Songs like “Go Girl,” which douses Baby Bash’s 2010 song of the same name with a bucket of oily, electrified slop, now have enough bitrate space for all the beat elements to breathe. Sounds great as ever—better even. And maybe the best news: Leary has signed to Tri Angle, that unparalleled breeding ground for dark electronics, for whom he’s already working on his next release and with whom he’s making his live debut, this Saturday in London.

Shlohmo - Vacation EP

One of San Fran’s hottest talents, Shlomo, is back. The follow-up to his debut record, ‘Bad Vibes’, is the ‘Vacation’ EP. Focusing on quality over quantity, the EP proper is just 3 songs long. The highlight of ‘Vacation’ is ‘wen uuu’, which Shlomo’s labelmate Salva has reworked into a stunningly low-key electro banger. With its soft yet dark beats, ‘wen uuu’ tugs at the heartstrings. The ‘Vacation’ EP is out on February 7 via Friends Of Friends.

Figure Of 8 ft. Sophie Galpin - No One Cries For Me

Here is the debut single from Figure Of 8 (Belfast-based electronic producer Dermot McGowan), No one cries for me featuring Sophie Galpin and released on February 13th through French label On The Fruit Records. First remixes come with reworks by Mighty Mouse, Worship, Pat Lok, Cyclist, Polar Sun and The FHC. You can download the radio version of the track for free

Scuba - The Hope

We're still a month from the release of Scuba's highly anticipated Personality LP, but bits and pieces of Paul Rose's production work continue to trickle in, the latest of which is this video for his bombastic new single, "The Hope." Directors Amy Rose and Kat Brendel tapped a load of found footage for this piece, pairing it with a bit of choreographed interpretive dance that seems to loosely correlate with the track's lyrical content.

Lapalux - When You’re Gone

Start Howard aka Lapalux has come up with something special for his first release with Cali's finest,
Brainfeeder. Having made his name with his cassette-only "Many Faces Out Of Focus" and acclaimed bootlegs and remixes he returns with a seven track EP of such poise and beauty, one listen is enough to know you're onto something special.
Lapalux bathes your brain in lush textures, surprising and explosive atmospheres set in unencountered, unearthly spaces, all somehow perfectly set against catchy rolling choruses informed by pop and commercial R&B. On the "When You're Gone" EP he channels and refines his sound and shapes it into hazy, woozy emotion. Whether working with a singer like Py (on "Moments"), or deconstructing found samples and his own voice, Howard stretches, bends and warps sound to make soul - not plastic posturing but real emotion made of synthetic sound

Moon Boots - Bills To Pay

Hot on the heels of his amazing EP “Aretha”, which was released last week, Moon Boots, offers a brand new jam “Biils To Pay” as a free download. As he said himself: “I got bills to pay, but I’m giving this one away for free”. We fed up with paying bills, so let’s wear our moon boots and dance again!

Mathieu Clé - Midnight Love EP

Apersonal Music keeps betting strongly on promoting unknown talents with plenty to offer. Mathieu Clé, a French producer from Montpellier, joins the list of newcomer artists who the label has confidently published; as earlier did with Trujillo, Cisco Cisco and Volta Cab.
4 original tracks and edits for the Spanish imprint eights effort on vinyl, a fusion of 80′s funk & disco samples edited and scrambled up with modern nudisco/house beats in a rather underground manner. The result is an energetic raw sound that make you feel like taken back in time to when all this dance-floor madness started to happen.

Hugh Pascall – Absence March (Max Cooper Remix)

This project was really enjoyable to work on because Hugh Pascall provided some amazing live instrumental parts with the trumpet and organ playing, which I caught a vibe from straight away and ran with to try make something a bit more in the techno/house space than the original, but still very much keeping the original idea.
I heartedly recommend checking out the originals on this release, they’re awesome, full of character and soul, and are being released on vinyl only, with 300 hand stamped and numbered copies….some exclusive business!…a different way of doing things by DSCNCTD records than my usual.

D'Angelo - Left and Right (James Blake Harmonimix)

Played on BBC Radio 1, Rob da Bank – ‘One On One Off’ with James Blake.
James Blake has been a big fan of D’Angelo for a long time. To celebrate D’Angelo’s return, Blake played a remix of the R&B star’s Voodoo single “Left & Right” during a guest DJ set on BBC Radio 1 this weekend, as Disco Naïveté points out. The remix came by way of Blake’s Harmonimix moniker, under which he has also reworked songs by Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, and Destiny’s Child. Blake mentioned that he is working on his next full-length, noting that it is ”quite possible” it will be out by the end of 2012.

Disclosure - Flow

Here’s the B-side to young London bass music duo Disclosure’s forthcoming single, “Tenderly” b/w “Flow”, which should be seeing release before the end of this month on Make Mine. You’ll remember we posted the A-side, “Tenderly”, last month.

Dean Blunt - Track 2 (feat Inga Copeland)

New work of smoky soul from Hype Williams duo.
Hype Williams is Dean Blunt and Inga Coupland, but in the last year, there has been speculation over their split, and this new track, titled Track 2 and listed as Dean Blunt (feat Inga Coupland), and that it will appear on ‘The Narcissist II’. ‘The Narcissist I’ was Dean Blunt’s solo CD-R.
